Kanji (汉字) are the Chinese characters used in modern Japanese, with hiragana, katakana, and the arabic numerals occasionally Latin. The Japanese word kanji (汉字) literally means Han characters and Chinese characters and is the same term used in Chinese to Chinese characters (Hanzi).

Chinese characters was first brought to Japan through articles imported from China. One of the earlier examples of such a golden seal from the Han Dynasty rulers 57 year. It is not clear whether they are residents of Japan alone mastered classical Chinese language. It is believed that the first Japanese writings probably written Chinese immigrants.

The students in Japan are expected to learn basic 1006 kanji characters, so. Kyoiku kanji before completing sixth grade. The order in which they learn the signs agreed and immutable. The above Kyoiku kanji is part of a larger list of kanji characters - Joyo kanji which is a requirement for fluency and understanding of the Japanese written language is present in most newspapers and literature. Joyo kanji must be overcome by the end of ninth grade.
